DEARBORN – Henry Ford Community College will host “The War of 1812: A 200th Anniversary Panel Discussion” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in Room L-14 of the Liberal Arts Building, on the main campus.
This event is free and open to the public.
The panel speakers include HFCC librarian and Historian Dan Harrison, and retired U.S. Navy Commander Dennis Ringle. Ringle is an HFCC adjunct history instructor and author of 1998’s “Life in Mr. Lincoln’s Navy.” HFCC History Instructor Pamela Sayre will serve as the moderator.
Two major victories at the Battle of Baltimore (which inspired Francis Scott Key to write the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the national anthem) in 1814 and the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 turned the tide of the war.
