SOUTHGATE — Low-cost pet vaccinations and more will be available for pet owners during a weekend exposition featuring vaccines, city licenses, nail trimming and more.
Downriver Central Animal Control — formerly Southgate Animal Shelter — will host its fourth annual low-cost vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 and 12 at Southgate City Hall, 14400 Dix-Toledo Highway.
Organizers said that the event had been attracting larger turnouts, and this year’s will likely continue that trend as, for the first time, the event is held in partnership with consolidated cities Lincoln Park and Allen Park holding vaccination clinics under the same roof.
Along with vaccines starting at $14 for rabies treatment, dog services available include tests, microchip placement and heartworm tests. Cat owners may get rabies shots for $12, along with other annual treatments and heartworm tests. For pet owners in Southgate and Wyandotte, a one-year dog license can be obtained at the clinic for $10.
A portion of the proceeds from the clinic will benefit Downriver Cental Animal Shelter courtesy of donations from Dr. John Herman, Robin and Fluff n Puff and the staff at Britts.
Downriver Central Animal Control, 14300 Reaume Parkway, recently completed its new shelter for homeless pets. The organization serves Southgate, Wyandotte, Allen Park and Lincoln Park.
