DHMC invites parents to workshop Jan. 20

January 12, 2014 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

HEIGHTS – Dearborn Heights Montessori Center invites parents to attend a free parent workshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the DHMC campus, 466 N. John Daly.

Rick Ackerly, a nationally recognized educator and speaker, will lead an educational presentation that will help parents learn how to bring out the best in their children.

Admission is free, and complimentary child care will be available.

Ackerly, who has a master’s degree in education from Harvard University, has more than 45 years of experience working in and for schools — coaching teachers, school leaders and parents nationwide. He is the author of “The Genius in Every Child: Encouraging Character, Curiosity and Creativity in Children.”

“When we have the opportunity to bring in highly respected and engaging speakers, we are glad to invite any parents in our community to join us,” DHMC Head of School Kay Neff said. “I am confident that parents who attend Mr. Ackerly’s presentation will take away insights and tips that they can put to use right away.”

To attend the workshop and for planning purposes, call DHMC at 313-359-3000 or email Shelley Boatright at [email protected] by Thursday.

Additional information about Ackerly is available at www.geniusinchldren.org.
