As “Big Daddy” Pollitt, a wealthy cotton planter from the Mississippi Delta approaches his 65th birthday he worries about the rocky relationship between his favored son, Brick, an aging football hero who has turned to drink, and Brick’s wife, Maggie, who is beautiful and feisty.

As “Big Mama” Pollitt tries to maintain the illusion of one big happy family, the plodding elder son, Gooper, his wife, Mae, and their horde of “no-neck monster” children compound the tension of the family gathering.
