Woman arrested for warrant
A 53-year-old woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant following a traffic stop near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Haigh at 2:24 a.m. April 13.
An officer on patrol in the area observed a Chrysler sedan running through a red light at Michigan and Howard and continuing west on Michigan.
The officer followed the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver and passenger, who both identified themselves. A check of their identifications showed that the passenger was wanted for an outstanding warrant from Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit for dangerous drugs. The woman was arrested, handcuffed and searched without incident before being taken to the police department.
The driver was given a citation for disregarding the traffic signal and was released from the scene.
2 arrested for shoplifting
A man and woman were arrested for shoplifting several tools from Sears, 18900 Michigan Avenue, just before 4 p.m. April 13.
Officers were called to the store by loss prevention officers, who said they had observed the two enter the store with a large duffel bag or purse with them. The two were seen by the LPOs taking various tools into the air compressor section and hiding them. They then returned and placed the tools into the duffel bag and exited the store without paying for the merchandise.
The LPOs approached and identified themselves but the suspects fled on foot. A brief chase ensued but the officers were able to take the pair back to the store without an altercation.
The merchandise was also returned and was valued by the store at nearly $400.
Police identified the pair and ran a background check on them, discovering that both were wanted for additional warrants from other jurisdictions.
They were then arrested for retail fraud and for their individual warrants and were handcuffed and searched before being transported to the police department.
Both were advised by management at Sears not to return to the store or they would immediately be charged with trespassing.
