ALLEN PARK — High speeds, jumped curbs and red-light running was all part of the scene early Tuesday on westbound Outer Drive.
Police arrested a 30-year-old Lincoln Park man for fleeing and eluding in connection with the incident.
The officer originally stopped the 30-year-old at Outer Drive and Southfield Freeway because the vehicle’s registered owner was shown as having a suspended license. When the officer exited his squad car, the driver of the vehicle, a GMC Jimmy, raced off.
The driver of the Jimmy drove 80 mph and ran through the red light at Monroe, and slowed to 60 mph west of Warren Avenue when entering Rouge Park. The driver further slowed to 40 mph west of Plymouth Road.
The driver then turned south on Dolphin Street in Detroit, jumped a curb and drove about 500 feet on the grass before turning back on the roadway. The driver then drove up the front yard of a house on the 12000 block of Dolphin and came to a stop.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, the driver jumped out and dropped to the ground with his hands up yelling, “I give up. I was scared and I’m sorry.”
The officer impounded the truck and arrested the suspect.
