TAYLOR — A 7-year-old girl who was reported missing Sunday night was located safe and sound Monday morning at a friend’s house, Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said.

About 11 p.m. Sunday police had been notified that Alexis Brooke Reitmeyer was missing from her home in the 6100 block of Harold Street. The girl’s mother told police she had gone to sleep earlier in the evening and awoke to find her daughter missing.

Sclabassi notified local media, which through the night had made public a photo and description of the girl while police conducted a search.

At 9 a.m. Monday Alexis was discovered to have been at a friend’s house in Wayne; she told police she’d called her friend’s parents to come pick her up the previous night while her mother and a friend were asleep.

Sclabassi said the girl was turned over to her grandparents pending further investigation.
