City parks, other property will undergo weed control May 18 to June 5

May 15, 2015 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

DEARBORN –  The city will apply an herbicide to control broadleaf weeds and dandelions at city parks and other public properties between May 18 and June 5. This is an annual endeavor.

Park-goers are advised that the herbicide has a pungent odor and comes with a general precaution to avoid contact with grass until the herbicide has dried, which usually is about an hour after application.

The herbicide used is the same that homeowners can purchase at local home and garden stores.

All park entrances will be marked with a notice alerting residents that the herbicide has been applied.  The three-week application window is so city crews can avoid wet weather, which reduces the herbicide’s effectiveness.
