LINCOLN PARK – An apartment fire that displaced a mother and two children is under investigation as a possible case of arson.

According to Police, the woman was at work when an alarm sounded at 6:45 a.m. June 30 from the 1700 block of St. Johns Boulevard. The apartment had been rendered uninhabitable by the time responders doused the blaze.

The woman told police that two flat-screen TVs and other valuables were missing, and investigators reportedly found an oily residue throughout the two-bedroom apartment which indicated possibility of arson.

The apartment had been unoccupied at the time, and flames had been reported as being seen coming through broken windows.
The family was reportedly relocated to another apartment.

Investigators awaited results of lab tests from the Michigan State Police, expected to take several weeks.
