The unidentified number of eighth-graders were caught eating brownies and marshmallow treats containing marijuana in a school bathroom. One student was vomiting as a result of eating the snacks.

A letter was sent home to parents Jan. 25 explaining the incident.

“This letter is to inform you of an incident that took place at Riverside Middle School on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016,” the letter read. “During passing time on Friday, several of our Middle School students were found to have been consuming marijuana in the bathroom. Based on our investigation which was completed this morning, we assure you that all of the students involved were identified and suspended. The Dearborn Heights Police Department was notified, responded and aware of our progress in handling this situation.”

The students involved have been suspended by the school and Dearborn Heights police were contacted to respond and conduct an investigation.
Neither police department nor Riverside Middle School officials returned calls by press time.
