DEARBORN — A Dearborn man was killed on Chase Road at Hemlock at Dec. 28 when he was struck by what witnesses said was a distracted driver.
Mohamed Abdel-Hak was riding a motorized bike near the intersection when a vehicle traveling north on Chase hit him.
Witnesses called police and paramedics to the scene about 2:30 p.m. Abdel-Hak was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A witness, who was in a vehicle behind the driver with her husband at the time said she saw the woman run a red light and was on her cell phone. She also said Abdel-Hak was crossing Chase in the pedestrian area when the driver hit him sending him and his bike in the air.
Surveillance video was collected from a nearby business for further investigation.
“It looks like alcohol was not a factor in the crash,” Police Lt. Gary Mann said. “Calculations are being collected to determine if speed was involved.”
The investigation is ongoing.
Commemoration services for Abdel-Hak are scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Islamic Center of America, 19500 Ford Road.
