Former LP Fire Chief Dave Silvani dies

January 14, 2017 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

LINCOLN PARK — Former Fire Chief Dave Silvani, who served as the city’s top firefighter from 1991 to 1995, died Sunday, Jan. 8. He was 71.

Silvani’s family reportedly will host a private funeral service for family and close friends.

Fire Chief Steve Martin said Thursday that Silvani, who retired in 1995, was a career firefighter who was dedicated to firefighting. Silvani retired one year before Martin hired into the department.

While fire chief, Silvani not only dedicated himself to serving the community, but also to fire education. He authored five short books. Four of the books addressed AIDS in fire service and a fifth was about the fire death toll.
