DEARBORN – Dearborn Public Library will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter’s book release June 26 to 29 with a week of themed activities.
As part of the celebration, the library will host a movie marathon. All eight Harry Potter films will be shown. “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” the newest film in the series, also will be included as part of the library’s Blockbuster series at 7 p.m. June 26.
Children’s crafts will take place at Bryant and Esper branch libraries on June 27 and Henry Ford Centennial Library on June 28.
Teens will also have the opportunity to make wands on June 27 and partake in a Quidditch match on June 29.
Patrons of all ages are invited to pick up a Triwizard Tournament passport and work their way to all three library locations throughout July. Everyone has until Harry Potter’s birthday on July 31 to return their completed passports for a special prize.
Additionally, after hours on June 30, there will be a Yule Ball for ages 21 and up at the Bryant Library, 22100 Michigan Ave. The event will have activities revolving around the Harry Potter theme including Charms, History of Magic, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Additional details and ticket information will be released in May.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was published in the United Kingdom on June 26, 1997. Harry Potter books continue to be one of the most popular series in the library.
