DEARBORN – The city Finance Department has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report.
This is the 18th year in a row that the department has earned the certificate from the GFOA, which is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Receiving this award is a significant accomplishment for a government and its management.
A panel of finance professionals deemed the city’s CAFR for the fiscal year 2016 meets the high principals of the program, whose goal it is to ensure that users of financial statements have the information they need to assess their own financial health. The panel awards those that follow “the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.”
“The Finance Department team takes great pride in producing accurate and reliable financial reports, and is pleased to be recognized for their efforts and accomplishment,” Finance Director Jim O’Connor said.
Dearborn has garnered 24 total awards for its financial reporting.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
