Summer in the sand

June 20, 2017 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Photo by Sue Suchyta Local high school-age girls are taking their volleyball skills to a higher level by practicing on sand courts in Wyandotte this summer through Pulse Sports Club, 13757 Eureka, Southgate. The courts, in BASF Park, are south of the Wyandotte Boat Club, between Biddle and the Detroit River. Practicing on sand improves hard court performance because sand resistance trains players to jump higher, build strength, and move faster, with greater agility. Sand also has less damaging impact on joints. Sand court, or beach volleyball, is also played with fewer players per side, increasing individual play time and ball-handling.
