TAYLOR – Lamar Eugene Thornton, 19, of Taylor was charged June 19 in 23rd District Court for the June 17 accidental shooting of a 16-year-old Taylor girl while in a parked car.
Thornton, who did not have a concealed pistol license, allegedly was playing with the gun in the back seat of a car parked at Little Caesar’s Pizza, 9633 Telegraph, when the gun went off, hitting his friend — who was seated in the front passenger seat — in the hip, police said.
The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was unharmed.
Thornton was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, larceny with a firearm, larceny in a building, two counts of felony firearm, two counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer and reckless use of a firearm.
Judge Geno Salomone gave Thornton a $5,000 cash bond and a June 26 court date.
