Two people were killed and two injured the morning of May 28 when a speeding car ran a red light on southbound Telegraph Road, crashing into a tractor trailer westbound on Northline Road.

TAYLOR – Two people are dead and two injured, one of whom was hospitalized with critical injuries, following a deadly crash the morning of May 28 at Telegraph and Northline.

City spokesman Karl Ziomek said a tractor trailer was westbound on Northline, crossing Telegraph on the green light, when it was broadsided by a Dodge Charger, which witnesses told police officers was traveling south on Telegraph at a high rate of speed, with frequent lane changes.

Ziomek said items found in the car lead police investigators to suspect that the car occupants may have been intoxicated, but that has not yet been officially confirmed.

The two passengers in the Charger, who died at the scene, were Heather Hutchinson, 31, of Taylor, a mother of three, and Zachery Rich, 20, of Taylor, who was engaged and expecting a son, according to media reports. Police are withholding the name of the driver of the car pending possible charges.

The driver of the tractor trailer escaped with minor injuries, Ziomek said. The truck was struck by the car on the passenger side.

Ziomek said video from the nearby Citgo gas station indicates that the driver of the tractor trailer had the green light for about 10 seconds before he was struck by the car that ran the red light. When struck, the impact carried the vehicles across the intersection to the easement on the southwest corner of the intersection, near the White Castle restaurant.

Accounts have been established for Hutchinson’s funeral expenses, here, and for Rich here.
