DEARBORN — City Council President Susan Dabaja was appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to the Local Community Stabilization Authority Council.
The Aug. 30 press release announced multiple appointments to the Environmental Rules Review Committee, Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee, Michigan Travel Commission, Michigan Wheat Promotion Committee, Michigan Freedom Trail Commission, Governor’s Educator Advisory Council, and the Local Community Stabilization Authority Council.
Dabaja succeeds Mary Anne Jones, whose term expired on Sept. 3, for a term starting Sept. 4 and expiring Sept. 3, 2025. She will serve as the chairwoman of the council.
“I am both humbled and grateful for Governor Whitmer’s trust and confidence in me to serve as chairwoman of the Local Community Stabilization Authority Council,” Dabaja said. “My extensive municipal government experience will allow me to lead this governing body, which is entrusted to help make important decisions on behalf of Michiganders, including the distribution of personal property tax replacement revenues which impacts Dearborn.
“I will proudly continue to serve Dearborn in my role as council president, while assuming this significant role as well.”
In addition to council president, Dabaja is an attorney, mediator, and guardian ad item for her private practice, the Law Office of Susan A. Dabaja, P.C., according to the press release.
She earned her juris doctor degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
According to the press release, the Local Community Stabilization Authority Council is the governing body of the Local Community Stabilization Authority, which replaced the METRO Authority, and is responsible for coordinating access to public rights-of-way and the payment of maintenance fees by telecommunications providers to municipalities.
“The authority is responsible for distributing personal property tax replacement revenue to municipalities throughout the state according to specific statutory formulas,” the release said.
