The United States Census Bureau is hiring for the upcoming 2020 Census, offering people a chance to earn extra income while helping their community.

The pay ranges from $15 to $24.50 per hour, and potential jobs include both field and office positions.

For information on available positions, necessary qualifications and how to apply, go to the Census Bureau’s website, https://2020census.gov/en/jobs/

Dearborn is promoting these opportunities to work for the U.S. Census to attract local people to these jobs. Workers who are familiar with the community can inspire trust so that residents will respond to the Census.

An accurate Census count is valuable to each community, as it determines the allocation of federal funds. Each person counted is estimated to generate $1,800 funds that can be used for community initiatives, public safety improvements and more.

“The Census determines federal funds and other beneficial resources for our city over the next 10 years, so it is important that Dearborn residents are fully counted in 2020,” Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. said. “We won’t have an opportunity to change the numbers for 10 years, so robust participation in 2020 is crucial.

“It is more likely Dearborn residents will participate if they are being asked to do so by people they feel are familiar and that they can trust.”

Some people may be reluctant to participate in the Census for a variety of reasons, but all individual household answers to the Census are kept confidential, by law. Releasing individual answers is a criminal offense.
