DEARBORN — Police arrested an 18-year-old Detroit man minutes after he allegedly carjacked a vehicle from a Dearborn woman Dec. 4.
The woman had just returned home in the area of Tireman and Wyoming avenues from a casino about 10:30 p.m., and pulled into her garage. A man appeared with a pistol and took the vehicle at gunpoint, a Michigan State Police spokesman said.
Information about the incident, vehicle description and license plate were broadcast over the radio. MSP troopers noticed the white 2018 Jeep Compass in the area of Joy Road and Livernois in Detroit and initiated a pursuit that lasted approximately one minute.
A pit maneuver was initiated at Epworth and Cobb which brought the vehicle to a stop, and the suspect was arrested and transported to the Dearborn Police Department.
“Dearborn PD will be handling the original complaint and MSP will be handling the flee and elude portion,” MSP said in a tweet.
The investigation is ongoing and once the suspect is arraigned his name and more information will be released.
Dash camera footage posted on Twitter shows the officers following the vehicle, hitting it as the driver attempted to turn around in the street and arresting the suspect.
