Flare-ups at warehouse extinguished by fire department

DEARBORN — Firefighters put out small fires last week at a warehouse in the 6700 block of Chase Road because of two flareups.

Fire Chief Joseph Murray said the cause of the fire will take weeks if not longer to determine due to the structural strength of the building. The 40,000-square-foot warehouse was packed with stock for local gas stations and connivence stores.

The small flareups were caused by rubble on the inside where fire can still exist deep down but without visible flames. Murray said the Fire Department usually digs out the rubble from fires but hasn’t been able to do so because of the building’s instability and investigation.

From Dec. 25 to. 26 firefighters worked to extinguish the initial flames at the warehouse. They began the battle about 10 p.m. and fought the blaze for 12 hours.

Chase Road was closed Dec. 26 between Henn and Warren into the afternoon and drivers were asked to avoid the area. No injuries were reported.
