DEARBORN — Devin Green, 19, of Detroit was charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Dearborn woman Janet Kendle, 43, a Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office news release said.

About 1 a.m. Sept. 3, Detroit police in the area of Jefferson Avenue and St. Aubin responded to the sound of shots fired within close proximity of their vehicle. At the scene, officers discovered Kendle on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

First responders arrived and transported Kendle to a local hospital for treatment where she died from her wounds.

The news release said Kendle and her husband were allegedly walking west on the north side of Jefferson Avenue when Green, who was a backseat passenger in a passing vehicle, pulled out a weapon and fired it out the car window, striking Kendle.

A Detroit police investigation led to Green’s arrest.

He was charged with second degree murder, careless discharge of a weapon causing death and felony firearm. He was arraigned Sept. 25 before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9 and a preliminary examination of the evidence against Green at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16 both in front of 36th District Court Judge Kenyetta Jones.

Additional facts and evidence will be presented during the preliminary examination.

Green is in jail until his court appearances.
