2 newcomers replace incumbents on council

LINCOLN PARK – Incumbent Thomas Karnes defeated challenger Chris Dardzinski in the mayoral race, while two challengers wrested city council seats from incumbents.
City Clerk Kerry Kehrer and City Treasurer Patricia Lulko ran unopposed.
Karnes received 5,732 votes (59.77 percent) of the votes in the mayoral race, which pitted him against former city councilman and local activist Dardzinski (4,966).
Councilmen Larry Kelsey (3,517) and Thomas Parkinson (3,043) lost their seats on the city council to challengers Maureen Tobin (4,623), who serves as the city’s events coordinator, and community volunteer Tracy Duprey (4,124).
Incumbent city council members Carlos Salcido (5,675), Donna Breeding (5,589), Michael Higgins (5,295), and Lylian Ross (4,515) retained their spots on the council, with Salcido, who received the most votes, ousting Breeding from her position as city council president.
The remaining candidates were Jason Baker (3,376), Daniel Murray (3,335) and Eric Szor (3,189).
