HEIGHTS — A Centralia Street resident contacted police to report an identify theft for her husband who had unemployment benefits applied for in his name.

On Jan. 28, the resident said she received a letter from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services regarding the unemployment benefits opened without her husband’s permission.
The tax form said that $1,164 in benefits were given out, but her husband didn’t receive the money or even applied for unemployment in Ohio.

She added that her husband was not eligible to receive the unemployment benefits. Police conducted a followup call with the resident Jan. 30 advising to contact him which she did, verifying what took place and said that she filed a fraud claim with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The case was closed and the resident was told to contact police with any information she receives regarding the unemployment fraud from the state of Ohio.
