LINCOLN PARK — A 52-year-old Lincoln Park woman was conned by a caller Feb. 3 who claimed he had over-refunded an amount owed to her for a canceled media service, and instructed her to refund the change by purchasing gift cards and reading the numbers to him.

However, the over-deposit was not a legitimate bank deposit, and she was also out the money she spent on gift cards to provide a refund for the fake overage.

When a police detective attempted to call the numbers used by the criminal, he was unable to reach anyone. The victim was advised to follow up with her financial institution.
