LINCOLN PARK – A 28-year-old Lincoln Park woman was arrested March 30 in connection with a dead infant found March 6 in a blood-covered plastic bag.
The remains were found in a wooded area near Fort Street and St. Johns Boulevard, near Ecorse Creek, in the south end of Lincoln Park.
Police Chief Ray Watters said the situation is still under investigation, and noted that the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case information.
“This has obviously been a very disturbing and unfortunate incident,” Watters said. “The department received significant interagency cooperation from Wayne County and the Michigan State Police.”
He stressed that Michigan’s Safe Haven laws permit a parent to surrender a newborn that is less than 72 hours old to any emergency medical service provider, such as a fire or police department, or a hospital, if their intent is to not return for the child.
