ALLEN PARK — Police responded to Valero, 7200 Allen Road, March 28 for a welfare check of a man passed out behind the wheel of a gold pickup truck near the gas station.
The officer approached the vehicle and observed the man passed out with a lit cigarette in his mouth. Upon opening the door, the officer immediately smelled the strong odor of intoxicants emanating from the inside of the vehicle. The driver was woken up, appeared to be disoriented and had slurred speech when he spoke. His eyes were also glassy and bloodshot, according to the report.
The driver admitted he had been drinking, and was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. He said he was dyslexic and was unable to participate in the tests. His blood-alcohol level was 0.14 at the time of the arrest.
During an on scene inventory search of the vehicle, police found a loaded Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol underneath the center console, and an unloaded Ruger 9-millimeter carbine rifle in the back seat. Both firearms along with five magazines of 9-millimeter ammunition and the driver’s Pennsylvania concealed pistol license were confiscated.
The driver was cited for operating while intoxicated and having a blood-alcohol level 0.10 or higher while carrying a CPL.
