Drivers line up for free COVID-19 rapid tests at Edsel Ford High School on April 5. Free COVID testing will again be held at the high school from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1.
DEARBORN — Dearborn Public Schools again will host a free community COVID-19 testing site at Edsel Ford High School Saturday, 20601 Rotunda Drive, and invites students to receive a COVID-19 vaccine Friday.
Residents can receive a free COVID rapid test from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1. The event is being run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Anyone in the area interested in receiving a COVID test is welcome to use the site, especially those people who do not have symptoms. A negative COVID test does not lessen any quarantine requirements. Those who are considered a close contact for someone with COVID will need to quarantine according to the guidelines provided by their health department.
The district also invites students 16 and 17 years old in the district to sign up for a Pfizer vaccination at a traveling clinic April 30 at Edsel Ford. Appointments are available from 8 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. and can be made by clicking here.
The clinic is hosted by Henry Ford Health System. DPS worked with HFHS to arrange the clinic, and the site still has open slots. The second dose will be administered on May 21 at the school. Students younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“We know our students do not live in a vacuum,” Supt. Glenn Maleyko said. “COVID is an issue facing the entire world, and the disease has hit Dearborn especially hard. We are glad to do our part to help control COVID’s spread by offering our facilities for testing and vaccinations.”
At the May 1 screening, rapid tests will be provided. Appointments are requested and will result in faster service, but walk-ins also are accepted. Face masks must be properly worn while on school property.
Testing will be conducted outdoors. Those arriving for testing should enter the student parking lot at the stoplight on Rotunda.
To register and schedule a test appointment, click here. The online form will also collect contact information and other details that will be needed before the testing.
Anyone who receives a positive result on the rapid test, will be invited back for a more accurate PCR test.
