DEARBORN — A man using the self-checkout lane at Walmart, 5851 Mercury Drive, tried to leave the store on April 18 with more than $250 worth of merchandise for which he did not pay.

The suspect put false bar code labels on some objects, in an attempt to get a lower price. He also bagged merchandise which he did not scan.

The man, who was accompanied by a woman and child, had no identification. He had a friend bring his identification to the store, after which he was cited for larceny, advised on court procedures and released.
