Former Dearborn Heights Fire Chief Errol Lewis died May 28 at the age of 84. Lewis worked for the department for more than 24 years. He started as a volunteer with the department in 1961 and became its seventh chief in 1985 — a position he held for 10 years before retiring in 1995. During his time as chief he “pushed the department toward advanced life support training, brought it into the computer age, and oversaw the purchase of state-of-the-art fire apparatus,” the city’s Facebook post read.
