ALLEN PARK — Police were dispatched to the intersection of Southfield Road and Allen Road for a single vehicle crash June 26 and were advised by dispatch the driver was highly intoxicated as stated by the caller.
Once at the scene, officers observed a red Ford F-150 in the median of Southfield, east of Allen that appeared to have struck a light pole. The driver was asked to shut off the truck, which he did.
Police detected a strong odor of intoxicants emitting from the driver and when asked where he was coming from the man said he was driving home from downtown Detroit.
He confirmed that he had been drinking. The officer noticed the man had blood shot eyes with a glassy stare and had heavily slurred speech. He agreed to field sobriety tests, and refused medical attention multiple times.
The driver’s blood-alcohol-level was 0.18, more than twice the legal 0.08 limit in Michigan. Police arrested him for operating while intoxicated and his truck was towed.
He was transported to the Allen Park Police Department where he was issued citations.
