MELVINDALE — A Melvindale woman attempting to sell a vehicle online received an offer from a San Diego used car dealer, who tried to purchase the vehicle with a check, which he mailed to the seller.

However, on July 14 the seller’s bank confirmed that the check was fraudulent, after which the vehicle owner filed a police report. The name of the attempted purchaser, as printed on the check, was not found in the Law Enforcement Information Network or in the Court and Law Enforcement Management Information System.
