ALLEN PARK — While on patrol, police observed a Jeep Liberty traveling south on Louise Avenue near Englewood Avenue with an expired license plate Aug. 15. The plate had expired in May.
The Jeep suddenly stopped in front of the police vehicle before abruptly pulling into the driveway of a house in the 8400 block of Louise. Police turned off headlamps and sat at Louise Avenue near Helen Avenue still able to see the Jeep, and observed that no on entered or exited the vehicle.
According to the report, the Jeep sat in the driveway for approximately 90 seconds before backing out and driving south on Louise. Police activated overhead emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop near Leslie Avenue.
The driver said he was retrieving money from a lawn customer’s mailbox at the house. When further questioned, he admitted that he pulled into a random driveway in an attempted to avoid being stopped by police. Also, the driver did not provide a driver’s license or identification.
A Law Enforcement Information Network search revealed the driver’s license was revoked and verified the expired license plate.
Police issued citations for driving with a revoked license and for the expired plate. The man was offered a courtesy transport to his house but said he wanted to walk.
