Public invited to ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday
DEARBORN – The public is invited to a ceremony at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 outside of the Dearborn Police Station commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, honoring the firefighters, police officers, and members of the military who died.
The 20th anniversary commemoration will be led by the Dearborn Police Department and Chief Ronald Haddad, and the Dearborn Fire Department and Chief Joseph Murray, and will include interfaith messages from Dearborn clergy members. The Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council also will be participating.
The Dearborn Police Station is at 16099 Michigan Ave.
Shortly after the 2001 events, the city and many community partners representing Dearborn’s diversity hosted a Peace and Unity Candlelight Vigil showcasing residents’ commitment to one another. Despite the shared grief over the tragedy, Dearborn presented a hopeful message. Commemorations promoting unity also took place in the city at the first, fifth and 10th anniversary of the attacks.
The Sept. 19, 2001, vigil will be aired on CDTV, the government access channel, at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 11, as will the city’s Sept. 11, 2011, 10th Anniversary Remembrance and Unity Commemoration.
CDTV is channel 10 on WOW and channel 12 on Comcast. Both ceremonies can also be watched via the city’s on demand service here and here.
