DEARBORN — Antonio Lavelle Sims, 17, was arrested Sept. 17 in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old woman Aug. 29 on Michigan Avenue near Evergreen.
Sims was arraigned in 19th District Court before Judge Sam Salamey on one count of first degree murder, and two counts of felony firearm. Bond was set at $1 million cash or surety.
A probable cause conference was scheduled for Oct. 1.
The arrest was a collaborative effort of the Dearborn Police Department, U.S. Marshals Task Force and the community.
Police said Sims shot the victim about 8 p.m. after a physical altercation then fled. The victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, where she died of her wounds. Police said it was not a random act of violence.
“Our officers worked tirelessly on this investigation,” Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. “With their efforts combined with the cooperation of our regional partners and community this dangerous individual is off the streets.”
