Ecorse Creek cleanup slated for Oct. 23

October 21, 2021 By Times-Herald Newspapers Leave a Comment

Teams will tackle debris and log jams in sections of Ecorse Creek near Swapka Park

HEIGHTS – The city and Wayne County will join forces to conduct the Ecorse Creek Clear-Out from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 23. The event’s assembly area will be based at the Richard A. Young Recreation Center and Swapka Park complex, 5400 McKinley St.

The cleanup team will include county and city staff and officials, contractors and consultants. The team will pick up trash and wood debris.

This event is intended to be the first in the partnership’s continued commitment to tackling hindrances within the creek.

“This collaboration between Wayne County and the city of Dearborn Heights is a joint commitment to the public to help cleanup Ecorse Creek and improve our environment,” Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said. “Our plan is to continue working together to hold a spring 2022 cleanup on a larger scale, and I look forward to the future success that this partnership will foster.”

To protect residents from both the known and potential unknown hazards — including the use of heavy machinery — during the cleanup, volunteers are not being called upon to assist.
