DEARBORN — An 18-year-old Dearborn man who was racing on Schlaff Street near Prospect Street the night of Oct. 13, in his father’s silver 2014 Dodge Charger, was charged with drag racing, and the vehicle was seized and towed.

A nuisance abatement statute allows for the seizure of vehicles involved in drag racing, and an appearance at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is required, along with a significant fine, to reclaim the vehicle.

Police Chief Ronald Haddad said Dearborn police officers are determined to deter drag racing.

“We will continue to work hard on issues that erode the safety and security of our community,” he said. “These individuals will be held accountable.”
