MELVINDALE — A Melvindale man reported Dec. 14 that unknown identity thieves had used his Social Security number to open banks accounts at his financial institution, and his legitimate bank account was one of the three accounts frozen, pending investigation.

The victim said he had been waiting to access funds that had been deposited to his account, and because of the fraudulent use of his identity, he could not withdraw any money. He was given information to help him contact the Social Security Administration about the illegal use of his Social Security number.
