Students from Taylor and Dearborn Heights have been charged by the Wayne County Prosector’s Office with making threats at schools in both cities following the Oxford High School fatal shooting.
The first student, a 13-year-old male at Taylor Exemplar Academy, was charged for alleged conduct on Dec. 8. He faces a charge of intentional threat to commit violence against school, school employees or students which he was given a $1,000 bond, 10 percent.
A pre-trial is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 18 in front of Wayne County Circuit Court Referee Mona Youssef.
In Dearborn Heights, a male student from O.W. Best Middle School was also charged for the same, intentional threat to commit violence against school, school employees or students.
He was charged for alleged conduct Dec. 14.
The $10,000 bond, 10 percent was set for the 11-year-old student. He has a pre-trial scheduled at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 in front of Wayne County Circuit Court Referee Sean Kerman.
A letter to parents from Best Principal Aaron Mollett said the alleged threat was made in a classroom and was overheard by a classmate who reported it directly to the teacher.
After being aware of the threat, Mollett began an investigation. The Dearborn Heights Police Department was notified and took appropriate action to ensure the safety of students and staff, the letter read.
Since Dec. 6 Wayne County Prosector Kym Worthy has announced charges in several additional similar cases in Wayne County. All charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty, the press release said.
