SOUTHGATE —A couple who returned to their house in the 14000 block of Burns Street on Christmas night, after being gone for more than 10 hours, summoned police officers when they discovered that items inside their residence had been disturbed.

The couple said they locked the doors when they left at 11 a.m., and when they returned at 9:30 p.m., they found holiday decorations knocked off the window sill in the living room, and picture frames knocked off the basement wall.

When a police officer checked the basement, he found small paw prints in the dust near where the picture frames had fallen; however, the couple said they did not have any pets.

They said nothing appears to have been stolen, and there were no signs of forced entry.
