SOUTHGATE — A resident of Village on the Park apartments called police officers at 5:19 a.m. Dec. 30 after he heard a person approach his apartment, with jingling keys, who then turned the doorknob to see if the apartment was unlocked.
The resident deliberately made noise inside his apartment, which caused the would-be intruder to flee, running down the hall. The resident said he looked out his doorway in time to see the hallway door swinging, and said he heard footsteps on the stairs exiting the building. He said he did not see the person, but merely heard the sounds.
