DEARBORN — A man was arrested early the morning of Jan. 12 after police officers saw him stealing items from unlocked cars and attempting to hotwire another vehicle in the 7900 block of Coleman Street.

Police officers received a tip from a resident that a man was attempting to open car doors in the residential area, after which they spotted the suspect, set up surveillance and caught him in the act.

Police Chief Issa Shahin said the incident serves as an excellent example of the community cooperating with the police department to help safeguard neighborhoods, and commended the reporting resident.

“Our night shift officers responded quickly to this report, utilized their investigative skills and took the suspect into custody,” he said. “The Dearborn Police Department will have an increased focus on patrolling the neighborhood issues residents care about and reducing this type of criminal activity.”
