HEIGHTS — A man told police he received a letter Dec. 17 or 18 from a collection service which said he owed $1,198 for an Xfinity account.

He said he thought the letter was a scam since he did not have any accounts through Xfinity, until he got a text Dec. 13 stating that $262.61 was charged on his Visa card at an Old Navy in Arkansas. The victim contacted his credit card company and froze his account.

The man told police he did not know of anyone who could have gained access to his credit card information and that he does not carry his credit card with him.

The victim also said he only uses the card for Amazon purchases and a monthly LA Fitness membership. According to the report, the victim received an email from Equifax approximately a year ago stating his account had been hacked and that he needed to change his passwords.
