SOUTHGATE — A woman who swerved to avoid an animal in the road at Overbrook Drive and Old Goddard Road on Jan. 14 hit a flagpole and tree in the process, but then left the scene, reporting the hit-and- run to police officers three days later on the advice of her attorney.

The woman showed photos documenting the damage to her vehicle, a flagpole and nearby tree.

She was cited for leaving the scene of a property accident and was given a copy of the police report for her records.
