RIVERVIEW — A Greentrees Apartment resident suspected of stealing a neighbor’s Amazon packages may have incriminated himself by throwing the wrapping materials, including the shipping labels with the victim’s address, into a common trash bin.

The victim reported on Jan. 21 that a silver HP laptop, a travel laptop backpack and two iPhone chargers, collectively valued at $300, were missing after being marked as delivered. He said a delivery photo showed that the items were left outside a nearby apartment with a distinctive doormat.

When the intended recipient asked the resident of the other apartment if he had seen the packages, he said he had not; however, when the responding police officers knocked on his door, he refused to answer.

The police found packaging from the stolen items in a nearby trash bin. They contacted the apartment management company to learn the name of the suspect leasing the apartment of interest. The identification photo of the apartment lessee matched the description of the man to whom the victim spoke.
