ALLEN PARK — A shoplifter successfully returned items he stole for $536 worth of store credit on Feb. 1 at Lowe’s, 23111 Outer Drive.

Loss prevention personnel said surveillance camera footage shows the man entering the store, selecting six sheets of aluminum, then hiding them on his cart by placing a 4-foot-by-8-foot piece of drywall atop them. The man then checked out, purchasing only the drywall sheet.

Security footage then captured footage of the man going to his vehicle and rearranging the merchandise so the aluminum sheets were on top. The man’s license plate number was captured by the surveillance footage.

The suspect then re-entered the store to do a no-receipt return for the drywall and aluminum, and received a $536 store credit after showing his driver’s license.

The man then left, and perpetuated a similar fraud at a Southfield store, with his license plate flagging at both locations. A citation for retail fraud for the Allen Park theft was mailed to his address of record.
