RIVERVIEW — Following witness reports about a reckless driver sliding his silver 2003 Chevy Trailblazer into a ditch the morning of Feb. 15, at the northbound Fort Street turnaround to southbound Fort Street, near Greentrees Apartments, police found and arrested the driver, a Lincoln Park man, who had walked away from the scene toward the nearby apartment buildings.

Witnesses said the man had been driving recklessly and almost hit other vehicles before landing in the ditch.

After running the vehicle’s license plate number, the driver’s name and information was provided to the responding police officers, along with the information that he was known to carry a handgun.

Due to previous contact with the individual, police officers knew where to find him, and he was located hiding behind a couch in a basement of a nearby building. A black handgun was recovered inside a plastic bag in a nearby backpack.
