Investigation indicates officer entered the intersection without yielding to traffic

DEARBORN — A police officer responding to a call June 26 crashed into a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Kendall and Diversey streets, police said.

An investigation revealed that the officer, responding to an attempted vehicle break-in in the 7700 block of Kendall, entered the intersection without yielding to traffic and had not activated the vehicle’s emergency equipment before the collision. Minor injuries were reported by both drivers. No additional passengers were involved.

“This was an unfortunate accident that demonstrates the importance of following protocols at all times,” Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “We are grateful that both drivers are safe and we have initiated an internal process to review and correct the action.”
