DEARBORN — Two 15-year-old boys were arrested in connection with a non-fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy March 19.
A warrant request has been submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office – Juvenile Division for review. Both suspects are in custody, held at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.
About 11 p.m. March 19, Dearborn United Dispatch received reports of a stabbing in the area of Warren and Schaefer roads.
An initial investigation revealed that a group of juvenile males engaged in an argument with two other juvenile males who were walking in the area. The argument escalated when several members of the larger group assaulted one of the individuals.
During the confrontation, a person produced a knife and stabbed the 16-year-old boy multiple times before fleeing.
Dearborn police officers arrived at the scene and provided first-aid to the victim until Fire Department personnel arrived and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital.
Through a swift and thorough investigation, Dearborn police identified and apprehended two suspects. The victim is currently in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
“While we are relieved that the victim is expected to survive, this incident highlights the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully,” Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “Our officers acted quickly to provide life-saving aid and apprehend a suspect, but we must continue to work together as a community to ensure our young people understand the consequences of violence and choose a better path.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Those with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Police Department at 313-943-2241.
