First public meeting to take place May 8
DEARBORN — The city is officially launching its West Warren Avenue Transformation Project, made possible through a $25 million federal implementation grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, secured with help from U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-12th District).
To engage residents and business owners and receive feedback about the project’s development, the city will host its first public meeting on from 5 to 7 p.m. May 8 at Byblos Banquet Center, 7258 Chase Road.
The West Warren Avenue corridor, a residential and commercial hub in Dearborn, has long faced traffic safety challenges that impact motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit and local businesses. The project aims to implement a range of traffic safety solutions, including:
• Reducing vehicle speeds and mitigating weaving traffic to enhance safety.
• Constructing pedestrian walkways and biking paths to improve connectivity throughout the corridor.
• Improving safety and operations at intersections to enhance traffic flow and reduce crashes.
• Installing green infrastructure features to enhance sustainability and mitigate stormwater impacts.
The public meeting will provide residents and business owners with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share input on the future of West Warren Avenue. Community feedback will help shape the final design and ensuring the improvements will address the needs of those who live and work along the corridor.
Arabic-speaking staff will be available at the meeting, and all materials will be provided in English and Arabic to ensure accessibility.
“Warren Avenue is central to Dearborn’s success as a small business hub, but for too long has been overlooked for transformative infrastructure and placemaking projects,” Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said. “We invite the community to join us in reimagining a better future for this important roadway.”
This initiative is part of Dearborn’s broader efforts to prioritize non-motorized safety, modernize infrastructure, and support local businesses. The project will be implemented in coordination with the ongoing Warren Façade Improvement Program, further revitalizing the West Warren Avenue corridor as a more comfortable and vibrant space.
